  14. I'm Francois Bastin, Ph.D. student in France and I'm
  15. trying to install Xdvik on a sun4m under operating 
  16. system SunOS 4.1.3. I had no problem to install TeX
  17. previously.
  18. Therefore, I got 
  19.   'xdvik-1.4.tar.gz' in /tex-archive/dviware/xdvik
  20.                      at ftp.shsu.edu
  21. and after the usual 'configure' and customization
  22. steps, I typed 'make' to run the top-level Makefile.
  23. The 'kpathsea' part is straightforward but I couldn't 
  24. go further than the compilation of 
  25.   xdvik/xdvi.c
  26. which ends like that:

  38. I turned the optimizer off for more safety(?).

  40. I'm afraid I don't know enough about C to get out of here! And I
  41. didn't find an answer to my problem in the TAGS, MACHINES or README
  42. files.

  44. Besides, I had (nearly) no problem to install Xdvik, release 0.30,
  45. on a HP9000(700) under operating system HP-UX A.08.07 three months
  46. ago.
  47. So my questions are: Is this a simple or wellknown problem that
  48. could be solved easily? Is there a place where I could get previous
  49. releases of Xdvik, hoping they would work better? Is this a foolish
  50. idea to try to install Xdvik of this type of machine?
